Can you give directions on how to draw/make/put vias into my layout in the Layout Editor?

A via is mostly nothing else than a rectangle. It is just a question on its size and its layer. You need to check your process specification how it needs to look.
If you want to perform a netlist extraction or a LVS with you design, you need the layer which is used for the via as a via_layer in the Layer Manger.
