Is there a way for the select cell to remember the size / shape of the dialog and which branches were expanded in the previous use rather than having to resize and delve down every time in complex designs?

Such a feature does not exist. For bigger designs I would recommend to use the Edit-In-Place feature when possible. In the default (edit/select) mode you can decent into the current highlighted cell with a *control double mouse click* and goto the parent cell with *shift double mouse click*

Thanks for the feedback. I use edit in place extensively already, however, it does not make sense to have a whole aligner mask with 100K chips and only navigate from there. It makes more sense to move to the chip design want to work on and then use edit in place. To switch between the multiple designs then "select cell" is really the only way to navigate. It is frustrating to have to resize the select cell window and open up 4-5 levels of hierarchy every time want to do this so adding a memory of the last view would be a useful option to add in the future.
