After successfully downloading the installation executable and selecting it the program begins to run. About 80% of the way through the screen showing "Gathering Information" the screen vanishes and nothing happens. No clues, no nothing. Any ideas on how to debug this issue?

That is a Windows issue on its Installer. Is another window opened behind an existing one? It happened sometimes that the main installation dialog is show up behind the file browser and is only visible in the task bar or after closing all other windows. Is maybe a further installation running in the background like a Windows update blocking the LayoutEditor installation? Could an anti-virus tool block the installation? The log file of the virus tool may show more information.
