When starting LayoutEditor by running the default batch file "layout.bat", a command prompt window shows up (see attached photo) and immediately minimizes itself to the taskbar. It seems like this command prompt window must not be closed if I want to use LayoutEditor. Is this correct? Is there a way to close this command prompt window while I'm using LayoutEditor?

Your observations are correct. The LayoutEditor entries in the Windows menu and on the desktop start the *layout.bat* file and in that shell the main LayoutEditor application is executed.
It is possible to modify the entries in the Window menu and on the desktop to *bin/layout.exe*, however this will disable the use of the OpenAccess file format. As far as i know there is no way working reliable on all Windows systems to completely hide the command prompt window from the taskbar. If anybody know a way, please let me know.
