To select multiple objects press and hold the left mouse button in the Select&Edit mode and move the mouse. Changing all selected object to a single layer is done with the feature *move to layer*. This feature is located in the draw menu and has the shortcut *W*

So, I am assuming this is not a function in the basic layout editor? Also, it seems that in the basic, I am limited to how many shapes I can use and tile. Is this correct? My license ID is 5644

You are right, the *move to layer* feature required at least the reduced version of the LayoutEditor and is not present in the basic version. There are no size limitations in the basic version, you can create designs with any amount of shapes with it. You need just enough memory on your system. For example to edit a 1Gb GDS file i recommend at least 4Gb of RAM. Size limitations only exist in the free version without a license key. Here only the save to disc is limited to some file formats including GDS. The LEC format can be stored in the free version without size limitations.
