I would like to know if the site wide license is suitable for universities and how does it works.

A site license is perfect for university to use inside classes and for bigger research groups.
With a site license you can install the LayoutEditor on any system within your university campus. You will receive a single license key that can be used for any installation. It will be check that the system runs regulary with an IP address registered for you university. A short time use outside like the use on a conference will be no problem. But a laptop only used on conferences and never inside the university campus will be detected.
