I did open a DXF with mainmenu/file/open, but on the screen, there is no drawing shown at all, sometimes there is a single cell shown on the screen, sometimes nothing else.

i guess your DXF has all lines in white color and you are using a white background (or using only black colored shapes and black background is used). Change the background color or the color of the layer to see the drawing.
Unlike GDSII the DXF file format will store usually the color of any shape and the default color of AutoCAD is often white. So shapes might get invisible with common settings.
This effect will be prevented or at least a warning will be displayed with the next regular update of the LayoutEditor.

By the way to check whether this effect happened is to use the *select all* feature. Selecting all will display any shapes in the select color that is visible in any case.

Yes, this happens to me too. I run a macro to reset the layers to standard values (and colors) and then the geometry will appear.
